Renewing a domain before it expires

Domains 7 views 1 min read Updated 1 hour ago
Quick Answer

Renew your domain through the client area or set up auto-renew so it never lapses.

Domains expire on a fixed date. If you do not renew in time, your website and email stop working, and someone else can buy the domain from under you. Do not let this happen.

Renew manually

  1. Log in to the client area and click Domains.
  2. Find the domain in the list. The expiry date is shown in the row.
  3. Click Renew. Pick how many years you want to extend.
  4. Pay the renewal invoice with Mobile Money, card, or bank transfer.

Turn on auto-renew

If you would rather not worry about dates, open the domain in the client area and toggle Auto-renew on. We will generate the invoice 14 days before expiry and renew automatically if it gets paid.

What happens if you miss the date

  • Day 0 to 30: domain is in a grace period. Renew at the normal price.
  • Day 31 to 60: the registry moves it into redemption. Renewal costs extra because the registry charges us a fee to recover it.
  • After day 60: the domain is released to the public and anyone can buy it.

The message is simple: renew on time or turn on auto-renew.
