No. You can have an email address on your business domain before you build a website. You need a registered domain and a service that hosts your mailbox. A website can come later.
That matters when you are ready to send quotations, contact suppliers or apply for work, but your website is still a few months away. You can put a consistent business address on your documents without making a website project part of today's purchase.
Here is how to decide what to buy—and what you may already have.
A domain, a mailbox and a website do different jobs
Consider hello@example.com. The domain is example.com; the mailbox receives and stores messages for that address. A website at the same domain is a separate service.
| Item | What it does | When you need it |
|---|---|---|
| Domain registration | Keeps your chosen domain registered for a period you renew | For an address using that domain |
| Email hosting | Provides the mailbox that sends, receives and stores email | For your working business inbox |
| Website hosting | Runs or stores the pages people visit | When you are publishing a website |
| Mail app | Lets you read and send from a phone or computer | When you want access through that app |
Installing an app does not register a domain or create a hosted mailbox. Similarly, buying a domain does not automatically mean an email service is included: check the order details.
The technical reason these services can be separate is DNS. A domain's MX records direct incoming email, while website records can point elsewhere. Google's DNS reference explains the roles of those records. You do not need to edit them to decide which service to buy.
Choose around the work you need to do now
If you run a catering business in Accra and take bookings through phone calls and WhatsApp, your immediate need might be an address for menus and quotations. Email-only hosting is worth considering while you prepare the website.
If you are launching a shop's website next week, compare a hosting package that already includes email. Buying a second email service may be unnecessary if the included allowance suits your team.
These are hypothetical examples, not customer case studies. The useful question is the same in both: what do you need to use this month?
| Your situation | A sensible starting point |
|---|---|
| You need a business address, with no website planned yet | Domain registration and email hosting |
| You need a website and email together | Compare website hosting with included email |
| Your existing hosting already includes suitable mailboxes | Check that allowance before buying again |
| Your website is elsewhere and you want separate email | Check how the domain's email records will be managed |
| Your team needs a particular office or collaboration suite | Compare that suite's licences and required features explicitly |
For the website decision, the Nakroteck hosting-plan guide compares the different ways to build and host a site.
Count people and storage, not just addresses
Write down who needs an independent inbox. One owner handling enquiries has different needs from three colleagues who each need their own sign-in and correspondence.
Do not assume that a list of addresses is a list of separate mailboxes. Ask whether an address is a mailbox, an alias or a forwarder, and how replies from it work. If several people need to handle the same enquiries, ask about supported shared access rather than planning to pass one password around.
For storage, use the size of your existing mailbox if you have one. Then consider what you keep: short messages, scanned documents, product photos or years of attachments. A bigger allowance gives you more room; it does not answer questions about attachment-size or sending limits.
Nakroteck currently lists 5 GB, 10 GB and 25 GB email plans, with one mailbox included in each. Use the current plan details when comparing what your team needs. These are hosted email plans; Microsoft Office and Google Workspace licences are not included. Current product details
Compare the full commitment
Keep domain renewal and email renewal as separate lines in your budget. If you also choose website hosting, check its renewal and what email it already includes.
Compare the amount due now, the billing period, renewal terms and any applicable taxes. A monthly equivalent on an annual plan is a way to compare costs; check the actual upfront annual total before paying.
Nakroteck bills and renews these plans in USD, with GHS payment available at checkout. Use the payment amount shown for your order. A cedi figure saved from an old quotation or screenshot may no longer match.
If choosing the domain is your next decision, the domain-registration guide covers common options for Ghanaian businesses.
Buy first, then complete setup
Nakroteck's email purchase flow lets you choose a plan and pay before DNS configuration. You can select a domain during ordering or decide later. Setup and any required ownership confirmation follow in the client area.
If the domain already receives email, arrange the change before replacing its mail records. Buying a new plan does not copy your old messages. Keep the existing service available while the move is agreed and checked.
You can also keep a familiar phone app. For example, Google documents adding a non-Gmail mailbox to the Gmail app. Using that app does not turn the mailbox into a Google Workspace subscription.
